WINGS is one of the better known Malaysian Heavy Metal bands, releasing their first album 'Belenggu Irama' in 1987. Having released a string of massively selling albums, WINGS profile is certainly enhanced by the inclusion of lead singer 'Awie' (Ahmad Azhar Othman), also respected as one of the country's top ranking actors for his roles in blockbusters like 'Iskandar'.

The band started out in 1985 with its original line-up of lead singer Ahmad Azhar Othman (Awie), guitarist Sham Baharom, bassist Samsaidi Haji Ulong Idris (Eddie) and drummer Azmi Hashim (Black).The group went through a slew of changes - from Joe (Abdul Zamin Abdul Kadir) replacing guitarist Sham for the 1989 album Hukum Karma (Karma's Punishment) to Awie leaving the band in 1993 to pursue acting and a solo career.

Awie made a return to WINGS in 2000, the same year the band put in its debut concert in Brunei. Another leading Malaysian Heavy Metal band, AMUK, included a cover version of 'Inspirasi Taming Sari' on their 2000 album 'Akar Dan Bumi'. In May 2007, Maestro collaborated with WINGS for an event at Singapore EXPO preceding their main concert, where they used Maestro guitars for their acoustic session.

WINGS uses the Maestro EJ-1, ED12-1 and Artista for their acoustic performances.
