Carl Chen (Bai Yun) is a producer/songwriter to the artistes of all major record labels. With an arsenal of styles ranging from pop, dance, rock and new age, Carl truly can be labeled as an all rounder in the field.

After picking up guitar playing at the age of 12, Carl has been constantly writing songs since the age of 14. Having his music featured in local film soundtracks before his 21st birthday, he has never looked back. Though a self taught musician, Carl lacks no introduction as one of the most inspired songwriters in the market, with his music and songs published in the USA, Europe and Asia, in as many as 7 languages. Carl has produced/written for award winning artistes like Cradle's APM Awards 2008 (Asian Grammy's) Album Of The Year winning debut album, Jeff Wang's Taiwan Top 40 hit song "Infectious", as well as Jiang Xiu Yi's award winning song, "Cloudy Sky", which in turn earned Carl the Best Song Award at the 2007 MusicAid International Music Awards. Carl's music has also appeared beside top industry players like Li Si Song, Xiao Han, Adam Lee, Jim Lee, Dayvid Foo and many others.

Picking up the piano, drums and bass guitar playing seemed like a natural progression for a person so musically inclined, but the guitar has and always will be Carl's first love. When first approached by Maestro Guitars to be one of their ambassadors in 2006, Carl wanted to field test their guitars before giving an answer. Just after a few days of playing live, recording and writing music with the Maestro Guitars, Carl had no doubt that he wanted to be on Team Maestro. In his own words: “The guitars exceeded all my expectations! I mean, here you have a bunch of  Singaporean guitar crazy people who decided to make better music through better instruments and at a price much more affordable than its equivalents from overseas! Of course I am in!”

Today, Carl spends his time between recording, producing and writing songs in his home studio (Cloud 9 Studio), guest speaking at tertiary institutions on songwriting, and authoring his book on songwriting tips and the music industry in Asia. However, there is a side project that Carl derives no end of pleasure and inspiration from. And that is being an artiste ambassador and lead producer for the Maestro Compilation albums. 

In 2009, in recognition of his continuous inspiration of others in music, his help and advice during the Maestro Compilation albums and his dedication in achieving better music through his feedback to Maestro Guitars, Carl was presented with a custom made guitar, named the Maestro Singa Bai Yun Custom. The guitar is a culmination of all the feedback that Carl gave over the years and was made to perfection by Maestro's chief luthier, Mr KC Tan. It became Carl's #1 acoustic guitar since then and it is commercially available at all Maestro outlets under the model "Singa" of the Custom Series.
